When it’s time for hardwood

  • Worn carpet or tired laminate that makes the house feel older than it is
  • Planning to sell and want floors buyers respond to
  • Rooms that don’t match after a remodel or an addition
  • A past install with gaps, squeaks or boards that lift at the seams

How we install hardwood

  1. We measure every room and check the subfloor, moisture and transitions at the free visit
  2. The wood acclimates in your home before we install it, as the manufacturer requires
  3. Nail-down, glue-down or floating installation, depending on the product and the subfloor
  4. Clean transitions at doorways, stairs and thresholds, with trim and quarter round finished
  5. We clean up the work area and walk through the floor with you

Cleanup after the flooring work is included in every flooring service. That means we clean the area we worked in when the flooring work is done. It does not cover areas we didn’t work in. Post-construction cleaning is a separate service, with its own scope and written price. About cleanup

What does it cost?

Every home is different: the product you choose, the size and layout, the subfloor, and stairs all change the price. Removal and disposal of the old floor are charged separately and itemized in your proposal. After the free visit you get a written price, and nothing starts until you approve it.

Hardwood Installation: common questions

More questions

Solid or engineered hardwood: which is better?

Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished many times. Engineered hardwood is more stable with humidity changes and can go over concrete slabs. We recommend one after seeing your subfloor at the free visit.

How long does the wood need to acclimate?

It depends on the product. Most manufacturers ask for a few days inside the home. We follow the instructions for the floor you choose and plan the schedule around it.

Can you match the hardwood I already have?

Often, yes. Bring us a board or show us the floor at the visit and we’ll look for the closest species, width and finish available.
